The shadows she observed in the grass inspired her to work for months on the technique that, in contrast did not portray the object she chose onto canvas. The object has been transformed into it's own representation, and the surface takes its interpretation from the artist. It is most effective when dealing with living objects as well as items that have a shelf life like fruits and people. Alexa's style of painting is one of ephemeral, and only images of her work are preserved. Trompe l'oeil can be achieved using the two processes of photographing and painting. It creates an unflattened and two-dimensional picture. Meade sometimes incorporates painted models in the space surrounding them. They are able to be part of the world that she created. The boundaries between performance, photography, installation and painting can be dissolved.
