Ani Difranco
Angela Maria Ani DiFranco - is a Canadian and American singer/songwriter. She has produced over 20 albums of studio work. DiFranco categorizes her music as folk-rock and alternative, but it also has influences from punk, hip-hop, and jazz. Ani DiFranco is frequently regarded as the feminist's icon, and Grammy-winning artist is considered to be the first creator of DIY music. She was one of the very first musicians to start her own label in 1990. DiFranco was born on September 23, 1970 in Buffalo, New York. She is the daughter of Elizabeth (Ross), who was introduced to Dante Americo DiFranco while studying at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her father was of Italian origin and her mother was from Montreal. Ani diFranco composed and sang the track 32 Flavors. The song is featured on her album Not a Pretty Girl released in 1995. Another version of the track is included in the soundtrack to the 1999 Canadian romance film Better Than Chocolate. DiFranco apologized in 2013 after it was revealed that she had set up a three-day workshop on a Louisiana plantation. The majority of us (including us) did not feel affected by her decision to cancel. DiFranco offered a second apology a few days afterwards.
